Cleaning and Restoring a Special Hermès Birkin Bag

But some days we have a project that’s really special—like this gorgeous limited edition Hermès Birkin 40 HAC Rock bag. The rare Rock purse takes inspiration from classic biker jackets, as demonstrated through the exterior pockets and chains hanging over the luxurious black leather.

This particular example found its way to our West Hollywood location with a number of deep scratches as well as a sticky blemish caused by a spilled drink. We used a proprietary blend of gentle cleansers to lift residue from the surface of the leather. Then we conditioned and buffed the skin over a five-step process, removing the scratches while keeping the delicate grain intact. Finally, the palladium hardware was polished and sealed.

The Haut à Courroies (HAC) is the oldest Hermès’ bag design and is widely considered the blueprint for the very first Birkins. Currently, the HAC 40 is produced only in very low volumes, never mind the Rock edition, so our client was highly invested in restoring the Birkin’s original appearance.
